September Update

"Okay, now when I say 'earthquake', all the 'houses' fall apart and everybody has to run and make new 'houses'." 10 teenagers from Christ Church, Coronado and 12 teens from Jesus el Salvador ran laughing and encircled each other in a Peruvian version of "Squirrel in a tree". And so began a week-long adventure in a shanty-town in Lima.

Have a Blessed Easter

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

The Lord is Risen indeed! Alleluia!

We just celebrated a glorious Easter vigil and the church is decked with flowers everywhere!

Thank you so much for your prayers as we seek to bring the Peruvian people out of a Good Friday culture with its emphasis on death and suffering and teach them that Good Friday is not the end of the story, but only the beginning!

Susan is doing well

Thank you for your prayers. Thursday evening the doctor removed a cyst which proved to be benign. Yesterday Susan was alert and resting fairly comfortably in the hospital. She came home today will now need two weeks at home with complete rest.

Faithfully,

Susan's turn in the hospital

Special prayers please,

Today, Thursday 7 April, Susan will be going in for urgent surgery to remove her left ovary. When we signed up for our Peruvian health insurance, they did abdominal scans on us. A small lump was found on the ovary, and ultrasounds three months apart showed that instead of shrinking, it has grown. While the CA125 blood tests (used to check for ovarian cancer) are not elevated, the fact that the cyst is growing is not good. The pathologist will take a tissue sample during the operation to check for cancer cells. If none are found, then just the ovary will be removed. I will be in the hospital for several days and then on bed rest for a couple of weeks. Please be aware that my internet access and responding to people will be limited for a while.

Please pray for --
the doctors and nurses as Susan undergoes the operation
Susan as she recovers that she not overdo it with trying to keep up with teams and volunteers
John as he handles the house and church, especially with Holy Week coming

Blessings,
Susan (for us both)

Stitches gone!

Well, healing has been a bit slower than anticipated. When the doctor took off the bandage on Monday to remove the stitches, he decided it wasn't quite healed enough to take them out, so he put it off until Thursday evening.

Update about John

John's hernia surgery went well. He was discharged 12 hours after he came out of the surgery and is recuperating at home.

John is having surgery today

JOHN
John will be having surgery to repair a hernia on Monday 24 January in the evening. Please keep him in prayer that all may go well and for the surgeon. He will be staying overnight at the Good Hope Clinic before coming home to recuperate for a two-week recovery time. Pray that we can keep him on bed rest until he recuperates. I will send an update after he returns home.

Mary's Heart in a Martha World

That's our theme for the our AMA Diocesan retreat. During this week, Susan will be with a team from Texas helping lead the AMA (Association of Anglican Women) retreat starting tonight.

Please pray for --
--That this may be a time of refreshment and learning for these women, most of whom are from the shanty towns. They have made sacrifices to be there, both in terms of family as well as finances. Some are coming from as far away as Arequipa, a 16 hour bus journey, to be here.
--Safe travel for the 10 women coming to join us from Texas. Dr Deborah Newman (It's Tea Time for Your Soul) will be leading the meditations on the weekend. We are blessed to have her with us.
--The AMA executive committee as we lead and direct 100 women.

Conferences Wow!

What a healing God we serve! John and I attended 3 different conferences over the first two weeks we were in the US. Let me tell you about some God-incidents at one of them.
