John's hernia surgery went well. He was discharged 12 hours after he came out of the surgery and is recuperating at home.
We went in at 3 pm to do paperwork and then sat in a waiting room for 4 hours while they dealt with no space. The hospital is being remodeled so pretty much all the rooms are occupied with two beds. John's surgery was scheduled for 8:30 pm, but they didn't take him up until almost 9 pm. There were at least 5 surgeries at that hour as the surgery waiting room was full and doctors kept coming out to talk to people. I think they may have been trying to avoid the dust and noise of construction which is why they had so many scheduled at night. He was in for 2 hours, then in recovery for another two.
The Good Hope is an Adventist hospital, which means they sell no meat in their cafeteria. I had a very good corncake/pie with an egg base for my supper while I waited for John to come out of surgery. I didn't want to eat in front of him while we waited earlier as he couldn't have any thing before surgery.
I went back the next morning to start the paperwork to get him released, up and down multiple flights of stairs to get all the paperwork as the elevator was in limited use and busy with patients on gurneys and the other was broken. Finally after about an hour, we were free to go. They don't take you out in a wheel chair, they just kind of say goodbye and you leave under your own steam.
Standing up and sitting down are the most difficult, coughing of course hurts, but he doesn't have a lot of pain, which is good. He will be doing limited work over the next two weeks. He gets up and moves about several times a day, so he's not confined to his bed. Many thanks to all for prayers. Our God is awesome.
BTW, we apologize if some of you are getting the newsletter in pink and centered. That is not our intentions as it is more difficult to read. We are still trying to work out the kinks of doing this through the web site.
Blessings,
Susan
