Have a Blessed Easter

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

The Lord is Risen indeed! Alleluia!

We just celebrated a glorious Easter vigil and the church is decked with flowers everywhere!

Thank you so much for your prayers as we seek to bring the Peruvian people out of a Good Friday culture with its emphasis on death and suffering and teach them that Good Friday is not the end of the story, but only the beginning!

Susan's turn in the hospital

Special prayers please,

Today, Thursday 7 April, Susan will be going in for urgent surgery to remove her left ovary. When we signed up for our Peruvian health insurance, they did abdominal scans on us. A small lump was found on the ovary, and ultrasounds three months apart showed that instead of shrinking, it has grown. While the CA125 blood tests (used to check for ovarian cancer) are not elevated, the fact that the cyst is growing is not good. The pathologist will take a tissue sample during the operation to check for cancer cells. If none are found, then just the ovary will be removed. I will be in the hospital for several days and then on bed rest for a couple of weeks. Please be aware that my internet access and responding to people will be limited for a while.

Please pray for --
the doctors and nurses as Susan undergoes the operation
Susan as she recovers that she not overdo it with trying to keep up with teams and volunteers
John as he handles the house and church, especially with Holy Week coming

Blessings,
Susan (for us both)

Team Crisis!

"Susan, we missed our connecting flight out of Miami, so we aren't coming in this morning. We're on 4 separate flights coming in late tonight and tomorrow morning. Can you help us?" What a way to start a Sunday morning! I had just said goodbye to two house guests at 7:30 a.m. when I listened to this phone message.

Stitches gone!

Well, healing has been a bit slower than anticipated. When the doctor took off the bandage on Monday to remove the stitches, he decided it wasn't quite healed enough to take them out, so he put it off until Thursday evening.
